Agro-food nutrition program in Chakaria

The Chakaria Food System Rickets Project had been implemented from 1998 through 2000 in Cox’s Bazar district. The main objective of this program was to discover the causes of rickets and promote food-based approaches to alleviate and prevent this disease. Agro-food nutrition program assists to improve the community-based health with emphasis on agriculture and nutrition in food-based treatment to alleviate rickets/malnutrition through;

·    Development of high calcium alternatives for food crops in the rickets-prone areas of Chakaria

·    Infuse high-calcium crops into the cropping system of the Chakaria growers

·    Use of drama to introduce maize, wheat and varieties/technologies and promoting vegetable cultivation and 

    consumption to supplement nutrition using Whole Family Training
