Capacity building in national agricultural research system breeding programs

Impacts at the national agricultural research system (NARSs) and farmer levels can be achieved only if adequately trained people manage the process.

CIMMYT is committed to providing improved germplasm appropriate to the capacity of national breeding programs in target regions.

The growing strength of some NARSs and the emergence of a commercial seed sector in several countries brings opportunities for closer, more interactive, and synergistic partnerships. By the same token, we must also address the decline in the capacity of many other NARSs. As part of its evolving capacity-building strategy, CIMMYT will give greater emphasis to emerging entrepreneurs and thereby assist in the development of a strong commercial seed sector.

In this context, CIMMYT is making a strong commitment to fostering effective activities and linkages with other key players in the overall value chain, including synergizing the development of effective seed systems in target regions.
