EPOP10
This trial includes early-maturing white-grained Quality Protein Maize (QPM) and normal (non-QPM) OPV's from CIMMYT and National Programs of the SADC region, including QPM varieties. Approximately one third of the entries are the best experimental populations evaluated regionally in last year's trial (EPOP09). The entries are adapted mostly to mid-altitude environments of southern and eastern Africa (800-1600 masl), but some entries may be suited as well for lower altitudes. The trial is intended for researchers interested in early maturing open-pollinated cultivars, or seeking source germplasm for breeding projects. For collaborators in Africa, EPOP10 will consist of 20-50 entries to be grown in 3 replications of 2 - row plots. For requestes from outside Africa, the trial will be sent with 16-20 entries to be grown in 3 replications of 2-row plots.

ILPOP10
This trial includes intermediate to late-maturing white-grained Quality Protein Maize (QPM) and normal (non-QPM) OPV's from CIMMYT and National Programs of the SADC region, including QPM varieties. Approximately one third of the entries are the best experimental populations evaluated regionally in last year's trial (ILPOP09). The entries are adapted mostly to mid-altitude environments of southern and eastern Africa (800-1600 masl), but some entries may be suited as well for lower altitudes. The trial is intended for researchers interested in intermediate to late-maturing open-pollinated cultivars, or seeking source germplasm for breeding projects. For collaborators in Africa, ILPOP10 will consist of 15-25 entries to be grown in 3 replications of 2-row plots. For requests from outside Africa, the trial will be sent with 16-20 entries to be grown in 3 replications of 2-row plots.

EIHYB10
This trial includes early-maturing white-grained three-way and double-cross hybrids from CIMMYT-Zimbabwe, National Programs of the SADC region and private seed companies. Approximately one third of the entries are the best hybrids evaluated regionally in last year's trial (EIHYB09). The entries are adapted mostly to mid-altitude environments of southern and eastern Africa (800-1600 masl), but some entries may be suited as well for lower altitudes. The trial is intended for researchers interested in early to intermediate maturing hybrid cultivars, or seeking source germplasm for breeding projects. For collaborators in Africa, EIHYB10 will consist of 50-70 entries, 3 replications of 2-row plots. For requestes from outside Africa, the trial will be sent with 24-36 entries to be grown in 3 replications of 2-row plots.

Design:     All trials will be done using alpha lattice design.
Plot size:  Two 4-m rows.
